From
fishing, boating, a myriad of water sports to horseback
riding on the beach or through almost endless trails
with spectacular views, Montauk offers wonderful recreational
activities for every interest. Take a cruise off our
coast for whale watching or a harbor cruise just simply
to relax and take in the sights. Enjoy world-class
golf at Montauk Downs State Park (designed by Robert
Trent Jones), tennis, hiking, bike tours, a dip in
the Atlantic Ocean, Block Island Sound, or just a
quiet walk on our pristine beaches. On land, history
buffs can take in our rich heritage - a tour of the
Montauk Point Lighthouse, Second and Third House museums
or Camp Wickoff. Divers can check out the H.M.S. Culloden,
an English frigate that sank a couple of miles off
Montauk (Culloden Point) in 1871.

The
Winter months bring the opportunity to view harbor
seals and learn more about our coastal ecology as
the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation
offers guided observation walks. For all seasons,
Montauk promises to entertain, enrich and relax. Montauk,
at the easternmost point of Long Island, is one of
New York's premiere seaside resort communities. With
its captivating coastlines and pristine beaches on
the Atlantic Ocean and Block Island Sound, over 70

Commonly
referred to as one of the "Sportfishing Capitals
of the World" Montauk boasts more than 20 marinas
and over 400 charter/party fishing boats; many reeling
in world record and prize-winning catches of tuna,
shark, striped bass and fluke. Surfcasters and Fly
Fishing enthusiasts never miss an opportunity to cast
or reel in a catch while here. Surfers travel from
far and wide to be challenged by the surf at Ditch
Plains, while sun worshippers enjoy the white sands
of our ocean and sound beaches. Windsurfers share
our beautiful Fort Pond Bay with colorful sunfish,
canoes, paddle and row boats. Whale watching is spectacular
here as our visitors journey out off Montauk Point
for close encounters with the great leviathans of
the deep!

For
the naturalist, we offer miles of scenic and unspoiled
trails. There are two large ocean side state parks
and Theodore Roosevelt County Park - for camping,
hiking,
biking, harbor seal and bird watching or just
taking in the breathtaking scenery. Visitors come
from everywhere to tour our treasured beacon: the
Montauk Point Lighthouse. Commissioned by President
George Washington in 1792, it was the first lighthouse
built in New York and is the fourth oldest lighthouse
still active in the United States. There are 137 steps
to the top, where the 2,500,000 candle power beacon
rotates every five seconds and can be seen for 19
nautical miles. Whether you are planning a weekend
getaway, a vacation, or like us have decided to call
Montauk home, we know that your experience here will
prove to be one of the best times of your life!
